Switching energy suppliers

No matter whether you are a business or a household, it is always good advice to shop around for your energy supplier when your current contract comes to an end, as it is always possible you could save money. This is especially true if you are running a hotel which can use up much more energy than many businesses. Here at Flash Compare, we can help you compare prices between energy suppliers, to see how much money you can save by making the switch. Our panel of energy providers are companies you can trust, and we will show you the most suited suppliers to your hotel.

Just like other types of energy contracts, there are different tariffs available for your hotel energy. We can show you the different tariffs available but it is down to you which one you choose. No two hotels are the same, so we can’t say with complete certainty which tariff will be the best for your business, this is why we show our recommendations, but leave the final say to you.

It can be a daunting thought when you think about switching your energy provider, but with Flash Compare the process couldn’t be easier, and it is one of the biggest ways you can save money on your hotel energy bill.

Switching providers is not the only way to save money on your energy bill, alongside this there are other changes you can make. For one you can upgrade your lighting to use sensors, which many hotels use. This just means there are areas of the hotel where the lighting is powered by movement, and they turn off when there is none detected. It is a great way of not wasting energy, with so many guests using different areas in the hotel, it is impossible to make sure the lights are turned off when they are not needed, but light sensors eradicate this problem. As well as doing this you can also switch to energy saving bulbs.

A big money saving tip is to introduce a hotel energy management system, which is the best way to control the heating in your hotel. This system can monitor room temperatures and automatically regulate it. There are of course many ways you can save money on your energy bill, but one of the biggest things you can do is switch your provider when the time is right, this is something we can help you with.

FAQ’s

What is the hotel energy consumption per room?

It is very difficult to pinpoint a figure on how much energy a hotel room uses. For one, all hotels are different, so they would have different electronics and heating set up to other hotels. Plus, all hotel guests are different. Some guests will use the electronics sparingly, some would happily leave all the electronics on, in the room when they go out, so hotel energy consumption per room can vary massively. This is one of the reasons why it is important to have an energy contract that works well for your business.

How do I cancel my current hotel energy contract?

Unlike domestic energy contracts, you cannot just cancel a business or hotel energy contract, as the contracts are set up differently, and you will need to wait until the contract comes to an end before you can switch. For hotels, energy providers will estimate how much energy you will use in the year and will buy this energy in bulk, this is why you are unable to cancel the contract, as they have already sourced the energy for you.

How do I know when my energy contract is finished?

You should check your most recent energy bill, as the end date of your contract will be listed on there. You should be aware of this end date, so you know when you can look around for a new energy supplier.

What is a fixed energy tariff?

A fixed tariff can be beneficial for hotels who want financial security, as the price of your energy bill will remain the same throughout the contract. This leaves you with no surprises on your energy bill, as you will always be aware of how much your outgoings are for your energy.

What is a variable energy tariff?

The price you will pay for your energy will change alongside the energy market, this is how it is different to a fixed energy tariff. This could mean that some months you will pay less than you would have if you were on a fixed tariff, however, it means on some occasions you could pay more. These kinds of tariffs are riskier, and are more suited to hotels that are financially stable, so there is less worry if the price increases on occasions.

What is a green energy tariff?

Going green can be a good look to your customers, which can improve on business. However, green energy can be priced higher than non-renewable energy, so you need to weigh up what kind of tariff would work best for you.

Do you have fixed term contracts available?

The fixed term contracts available can run for either 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 years.

How much electricity does a hotel use?

It is impossible to say for sure due to the varying sizes and set ups of different hotels. If we say the average hotel has between 50 - 150 rooms, we can assume that the average energy use per day, in the guest rooms alone is between 2,500 and 7,500 kWh. To put this into perspective, the average energy use per year for a UK household is 3,100 kWh.
