FAQ’s
What is the hotel energy consumption per room?
It is very difficult to pinpoint a figure on how much energy a hotel room uses. For one, all hotels are different, so they would have different electronics and heating set up to other hotels. Plus, all hotel guests are different. Some guests will use the electronics sparingly, some would happily leave all the electronics on, in the room when they go out, so hotel energy consumption per room can vary massively. This is one of the reasons why it is important to have an energy contract that works well for your business.
How do I cancel my current hotel energy contract?
Unlike domestic energy contracts, you cannot just cancel a business or hotel energy contract, as the contracts are set up differently, and you will need to wait until the contract comes to an end before you can switch. For hotels, energy providers will estimate how much energy you will use in the year and will buy this energy in bulk, this is why you are unable to cancel the contract, as they have already sourced the energy for you.
How do I know when my energy contract is finished?
You should check your most recent energy bill, as the end date of your contract will be listed on there. You should be aware of this end date, so you know when you can look around for a new energy supplier.
What is a fixed energy tariff?
A fixed tariff can be beneficial for hotels who want financial security, as the price of your energy bill will remain the same throughout the contract. This leaves you with no surprises on your energy bill, as you will always be aware of how much your outgoings are for your energy.
What is a variable energy tariff?
The price you will pay for your energy will change alongside the energy market, this is how it is different to a fixed energy tariff. This could mean that some months you will pay less than you would have if you were on a fixed tariff, however, it means on some occasions you could pay more. These kinds of tariffs are riskier, and are more suited to hotels that are financially stable, so there is less worry if the price increases on occasions.
What is a green energy tariff?
Going green can be a good look to your customers, which can improve on business. However, green energy can be priced higher than non-renewable energy, so you need to weigh up what kind of tariff would work best for you.
Do you have fixed term contracts available?
The fixed term contracts available can run for either 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 years.
How much electricity does a hotel use?
It is impossible to say for sure due to the varying sizes and set ups of different hotels. If we say the average hotel has between 50 - 150 rooms, we can assume that the average energy use per day, in the guest rooms alone is between 2,500 and 7,500 kWh. To put this into perspective, the average energy use per year for a UK household is 3,100 kWh.
